One page (or single page) websites are becoming increasingly more popular and trendy as the design-sphere leans more towards simplification and minimalism. Logos and packaging are going back to the basics to feel more modern and sleek, and to not over-stimulate their audience. Websites are following their lead, reducing page counts and unnecessary copy to make the user experience as easy and as manageable as possible.
It's not just simple for the user, but it's incredibly simple for the designers and the website-managers to keep on top of. With only one page, there really isn't a whole lot to need to worry about with regards to SEO, optimization, and even the initial build of the site. So if you're managing a site yourself without the support of professionals (such as Trill - that's us!), think about whether you actually need all of those extra pages or if you can make the whole ordeal much easier for yourself.
Time Saving
- With only a single page, the user never has to search around multiple pages (each one with its own load time) to find what they want. When there's only a single product or service, having everything on the front page makes it faster for the user to know what they're buying - and increasing likelihood that they will buy it!
Mobile Friendly
- Optimization for mobile and tablets can be quite time consuming, and sometimes features simply won't work on different platforms. With only a single page, there's a lot less to go wrong, and without various tabs, it's much easier to navigate on touch screens.
Controlled Experience
- Without the ability to jump to the specific pages that they want (though they can still skip to sections with Anchors), users are much more likely to follow the flow of information that is presented before them. Web designers can create a story with their website, and present information in an order that boosts sales.
Increased Conversions
- All the way back in 2011, there was a
study
(

) comparing the conversion rates for a mutli-page and a one-page version of the same site. At the time, it showed a 37.5% increase in sales - a significant step up.
If you want to take a shot at creating a one-page design for your website, as with all design you should first take a look at some examples. Below are some resources that will hopefully help:
