Should You Use Wordpress?

"Wordpress was built for blogs, not small businesses"

With so many ways to build websites these days, it's important to ask questions as to why you should, or shouldn't, use specific services. The most important, we think, is 'was this tool made to create websites'. If you're using Squarespace, Wix, or Duda (that's what we use!), then the answer is a very clear - yes. These services were built with the intention of making building websites easy and pain-free, so there's no unnecessary systems in place to confuse, distract, or weaken the overall service. Wordpress, however, was created for blogging - and that remains its primary function.

As far as free tools go, WP is fantastic. It provides everything that you could possibly want due to its open-source nature, but that also means that whenever there's an update, you have to rely on the creators of each individual plugin to update their own tools or your website won't work effectively or efficiently. That's the price that you pay for... not paying a price (other than hosting fees).

What Do The Rest Offer?

To put it shortly, better SEO, better performance, better security, and better build times. Now those are some bold claims, so we'll go through them each one by one.

SEO - Web-builders like Duda have built-in architecture that automatically improves SEO for you while staying aligned with Google protocol. They understand that if you're making a website through them, that you want that website to be found, and they do all that they can to help you along the way.

Performance - Every piece of code on a web-builder is built by them, and optimized for Google PageSpeed. These are trusted professionals that are writing code purely for websites, nothing else. On Wordpress your content will be slowed down by code and software bloats from regularly outdated plugins.

Security - SSL certificates are something that need to constantly be updated. Web-builders often provide free encryption and auto-renewing SSLs that get updated automatically. Wordpress unfortunately requires manual installation of any security certificates and updates, and is a paid service.

Build Times - This one is simple. Every tool at your disposal is created to help build a website as quickly and efficiently as possible. These days, almost everything is drag and drop, and automatically responsive across all devices and screen sizes, it's never been easier to make a site.
