Videos Need Their Own Pages, Says Google

Leith Brownlee • Nov 06, 2021

Google's 'Best Practices' guide has been updated, let's find out why.

SearchEngineLand have done a fantastic job at covering Google's recent Best Practices update, which you can find here. Instead of rehashing everything word for word, let's just go over some key points.

  • Dedicated pages for each video - Google really wants us to give everything its own personal page, and now videos are no different. This is likely to ensure that people can easily find specifc videos instead of having to look deep into other pages, massively improving SEO (but perhaps hindering the user journey).
  • Video placement is still important - The words 'prominent subject on the page' are a huge point that Google is trying to make. Don't fill your video pages with copy, let it do its own talking.

Some services require it - Rich Results and Key Moments are among these services, meaning Google is really pushing hard and shaking things up, so we should really listen if we want our content to be seen.
