A Quick Rundown of SEO

Firstly - SEO is Search Engine Optimization. What that means is that whenever you employ SEO techniques on your site, your ranking on sites like Google and Bing will increase. So when someone googles 'SEO Tips and Tricks' (the name of this blog post!), the website with the best SEO that relates to that topic will be listed at the top of the results, the second best SEO being second etc. The higher that you rank, the easier it is to find you, and the more business you're likely to get.

How to Get Started

There are a number of important steps to take to ensure that your website has great SEO, but the number one thing to think about is: User Intent . The users are the people that are using your website, so whatever they need your website for - cater to that. Let their actions and needs do the heavy lifting for you.   So how do you figure out User Intent? Keyword Research . With sites like Keyword Planne r (a Google Ads service), you simply need to input information like your products, services, location, and other things that define your business. Then the site will come back with all kinds of keywords that users looking for your type of business often search for.
At this point, you should have a good idea of who you're trying to target, and how you can target them. Now, you need to sit back and accept that you aren't as known and trusted as the global leaders. Don't try and compete , simply create your content, target keywords where you can, and let your trust and expertise build over time. You're not going to start out at the top of the rankings by any means, and that's okay. All of those other companies have been perfecting their SEO for years, and building up a reputation with Google to get them the rank that they deserve.

Simple SEO Improvements

  • Customer Reviews - One of the things that I mentioned earlier was 'reputation'. The more reviews that you have on your site, whether good or bad, the better your reputation with search engines. Obviously good reviews make you look great to users (and search engines prefer them), but this is a case where quantity tends to be better than quality. So ask your customers to leave reviews, they're useful for everyone.
  • Fast Page Load Speed - Utilizing apps, videos, and large images can be useful for improving interaction and lead generation once your customers begin using your site, but if it takes them more than 2-3 seconds to load in, chances are they'll leave right away. That's if they even get to your site, as search engines can see your web vitals and prioritize faster loading sites in their ranking.
  • Alt-Tag Images - Make sure that every image on your site has a descriptive alt-tag that can help Google to understand what it is, and why it's there. This effectively converts your images into keywords that can help people find your site, and lets Google see that you're more accessible, ranking your site hire.
